Use
In this IMG activity, you specify the numbering scheme and thus the structure for tariff code numbers for customs processing. You can also choose the type of description you want to display for tariff code numbers in the system. The official description is shown on the customs document, irrespective of which description you display in the system.
A numbering scheme must comprise at least two levels. You have to define the number length (total length of the number, including this level), the maintenance option (exact length or format and scope), and a description for each level. You need the numbering scheme and its assignment to the tariff code numbers to be able to assign the product master and customs documents.
In some numbering systems, such as the German Electronic Customs Tariff (EZT), some goods are entered using supplementary units. Supplementary units are defined by the customs authorities and they are used for customs duty calculation and/or for statistical purposes. You therefore have to enter supplementary units in the messages and documents that you exchange with the customs authorities. In this IMG activity, you define supplementary units at the numbering scheme level for the various numbering systems and assign them to the internal units of measurement in SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) 3.0. Based on the product classification, the system establishes whether supplementary units are necessary to communicate with the customs authorities regarding a particular product.
If the denotation of the external unit of measurement is different from that of the internal unit of measurement, you can maintain the conversion factor between the various units of measurement in this IMG activity. You have to convert units of measurement if the unit of measurement that you send to the customs authorities is different from the unit of measurement that you use to procure goods and that you enter in your inventory control system. For example, you can convert goods that you purchase in the base unit of measure 'kilogram' into the unit of measurement "unit" - the unit that the customs authorities use to define duty rates. You can also assign different quantity relationships of a unit of measurement to the internal units of measurement.
You can also assign end uses to a numbering scheme. This lets you classify a product in the application with different numbers, depending on its end use. To do so, you first have to set the end use indicator in the numbering scheme. This indicator activates all end uses that you have defined for the numbering scheme and offers them for selection in the application. If you want to restrict the end uses for a numbering scheme, you can do so by assigning end uses to numbering schemes explicitly under Assignment of End Use.
Requirements
You have entered the units of measurement used by the customs authorities as internal units of measurement (if these units had not already been defined in the activity) in IMG activity Check Units of Measurement.
You have defined end uses in IMG activity
Define End Uses for Numbering Scheme of Tariff Code Numbers, in order to assign end uses to the numbering schemes of the tariff code numbers.
Standard settings
The standard configuration of this activity already contains the numbering scheme DEEZT (German Electronic Customs Tariff) and the following additional data.
- Tariff code number structure
Level Length Mainten. Text
10 2 Exact length Chapter
20 4 Exact length Heading
30 6 Exact length HS code
40 8 Exact length Export Statistical Item
50 10 Exact length TARIC
60 11 Exact length Import Code Number
- Maintain Product Master
- Product Category: Material
- Date Check: Valid-From and Valid-To Date Can Be Maintained
- External units of measurement are not required for data upload.
Activities
Define a numbering scheme and enter a description for it.
In the dialog structure, choose Tariff Code Number Structure and enter the structure of the tariff code number. Choose the description type. Also define the details for displaying the tariff code numbers, such as the description type or whether end uses are allowed for classification in the numbering scheme.
Choose Maintain Product Master and enter the material and the time of the check. If you have made the assignment of tariff code numbers time-dependent, you can assign the tariff code numbers to every other product master once this time interval has expired.
Use External Units of Measurement for Data Upload in the dialog window to assign the units of measurement used by the customs authorities to the units of measurement in SAP GTS and, if necessary, specify various quantity relationships for a unit of measurement. Make sure you assign the units of measurement such that they can be interpreted uniquely in both directions.
If you only want to allow a subset of the defined end uses in a numbering scheme, you can define this specifically under Assign End Uses. If you do not define any settings in this area, the system will use all the defined end uses for the numbering scheme, provided you have set the end use indicator under Tariff Code Number Structure.
Example
Example of supplementary units used by the customs authorities:
Code Qualifier Meaning
CEN 100 units
DTN Hectokilogram
DTN E per 100 kg dry weight
DTN F per 100 kg wheat
DTN G per 100 kg gross weight
...
GRM Gram
KGM Kilogram
KGM A per 100 kg total alcohol content
KGM E per 100 kg dry weight
KGM G per 100 kg gross weight
LTR Liter
MIL 1000 units
NAR No. of units
In this IMG activity, the following supplementary units can be assigned to the internal unit of measurement (unit):
NAR (No. of units ) conversion factor 1 Internal UoM St (unit)
CEN (100 units) conversion factor 100 Internal UoM St (unit)
MIL (1000 units) conversion factor 1000 Internal UoM St (unit)
To define and assign 1000 units from the Electronic Customs Tariff to the supplementary units in example 8212 20 00, you can make the following settings.
Chapter 82
Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts
thereof of base metal
Razors and razor blades (including blade blanks):
- Razors:
- - Razors with non-changeable blades 8212 10 10 (St)
- - Miscellaneous 8212 10 90 (St)
- - Safety razor blades, including razor blade blanks in strips 8212 20 00 (1000 St)
- - Other parts of razors 8212 90 00 (-)
Supplementary unit: MIL
Description: Units
Internal unit of measurement: St (units)
ISO code: PCE (piece)
Basis for conversion: Document item quantity
Conversion factor: 1000
Unit of measurement: St (units)
