Use

In this IMG activity, you configure the settings to define the format for displaying output and saving external product numbers in SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS). You define:

  • Input and output length of the external product number
  • Template for the output of the external product number
  • Format that is to be used for saving the external product number
    • Lexicographic
    • Output with leading zeros
    • Save with leading zeros for numeric values

Note: You have to configure these settings separately in each client. You also have to synchronize the settings in SAP GTS with the settings for outputting and saving product IDs in the feeder system. If you use SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP ERP) as your feeder system, you will find these settings under Logistics - General -> Material Master -> Basic Settings -> Define Output Format of Material Numbers.

Activities

Complete the following activities:

  • Specify the input and the output length of the product number (the maximum length is forty characters).
  • Specify a product number template.
    If a character in the product number is not a digit, you should indicate this using an underscore, for example, _/__-_/_.
  • Specify how the product number should be saved
    • Lexographically
      You can only select this indicator if the product numbers in the system are not numerical. The system cannot interpret purely numerical numbers. If you select this indicator, the system does not display any leading zeros.
    • Output with zeros
      If you select this indicator, the system outputs numerical product numbers with leading zeros.
      If a product number contains at least one non-numerical character, the system outputs the product number as left-aligned.
    • Save with leading zeros
      If you select this indicator, the system prefixes the product number with leading zeros until it reaches the specified length. The system saves the number with these prefixed leading zeros. The system also saves any zeros you enter manually here. This means you can distinguish between the product numbers 123 and 0123, for example.
