Use

In the applications, SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) logs documents, the transfer of master data, the creation of entries in worklists, calculation results, and so forth. In the standard configuration, the system creates a new log for each transaction and stores it in the system.

In this IMG activity, you define a control profile for logging. You can use this log to combine the properties of logs. The control profile enables you to determine, for each process step, whether the system stores logs on the database on a long-term basis and what scope these logs have.

For each control profile, you can define the following parameters:

  • Persistence control: Using persistence control, you can define whether the system always saves a log, never saves a log, or only saves a log if errors have occurred. If you define for a control profile that the system saves logs only if errors have occurred, the system then stores a log on the database if it contains messages belonging to the "Termination" and "Error" categories.
  • Log backup: Save the current log and delete old logs or save the current log and retain old logs.
  • Log scope: Display complete log or reduced log. The system can either contain all the messages for a transaction or reduce the log scope to the necessary messages. Note: SAP GTS only supports the settings for this parameter in selected processes (for example, in customs value calculation).
  • Residence time: With the residence time you can define the number of days that the log is retained in the database. If you have configured your system for automatic archiving of logs, the system selects all logs with an expired residence time for an archiving run.

Requirements

Standard settings

The standard configuration contains the following control profiles for logging:

  • GN_TST     General: Complete Log - Always Save (Test)
  • MD_BOM     Master Data Distribution: BOMs (Live)
  • MD_BP     Master Data Distribution/Maintenance: Business Partner (Live)
  • MD_PR     Master Data Distribution/Maintenance: Products (Live)
  • TD_CCH     Transaction Data: Document Compliance Check (Live)
  • TD_DUC     Transaction Data: Customs Duty Calculation (Live)
  • TD_MAP     Transaction Data: Document Replication Mapping (Live)
  • WL_IN     Worklist: Goods Receipts (Live)

The control profiles are designed so that the system only saves the logs if necessary and in a reduced scope.

Note: The profile GN_TST - General: Complete Log - Always Save (Test) is intended as a sample profile for test operation. In the production system, you can use the control profiles with the supplement 'live' and utilize the logging objects in the following IMG activities, for example:

Activities

Enter a name and a short description for the control profile for logging.

Define the parameters for persistence control, for the service log, and for the log scope.

Specify the number of days that the system is to keep the logs in the database.
