Enter applicable EIC status before entering number of qualifying children

Diagnosis

You have made an entry in the Qualifying children field, but the employee's Earned Income Credit (EIC) status is Not Applicable (zero).

System Response

The system does not allow you to save your entries.

Procedure

  • If the employee is eligible for the EIC tax benefit, proceed as follows:
    • Enter an EIC status different from Not Applicable (zero).
    • Enter the appropriate number in the Qualifying children field.
  • If the employee is not eligible for the EIC tax benefit, proceed as follows:
    • Leave the EIC status as Not Applicable (zero).
    • Leave the Qualifying children field blank.
