Definition
Content components for a booking unit can either be maintained according to the issue variant types of the respective reference edition or by using a production unit variant type (PU variant type) that has been created for this purpose.
Use
In daily newspapers, the content structure of an edition (publication of columns and sections) is usually weekday-dependent.
Each issue for an edition is of a particular issue variant type. On weekdays, this is usually the issue variant type that corresponds to the respective weekday. Other issue variant types may occur due to public holidays or other exceptional circumstances (special issues).
If the content structure of the editions (publication of columns and sections) is based on these issue variant types, the 'Content for each issue variant type' setting is recommended.
In exceptional cases when the content structure cannot be based on the issues, it may be advisable to use the PU variant type to categorize production units so that you can assign content components using this PU variant type more easily than if you had used the assignment for each issue variant type method. In this instance, the 'Content for each PU variant type' setting is recommended.
