Documentation

Definition

Identifies one BOM in a BOM group.

Use

  • One product or assembly can be described by a number of (alternative) BOMs that represent, for example, different manufacturing processes for different lot sizes. These alternative BOMs are grouped together as one multiple BOM.
  • Alternatives are maintained separately for each BOM usage.

Supplementary Documentation - STALT 0001

Procedure

  • When you create a BOM, the system creates the first alternative.
  • If you want to create more BOMs for the same material (multiple BOM), you have two options for assigning the alternative:
    • If you do not make an entry, the system determines the next unused alternative. This value is displayed in the message line and set as a default.
    • You assign an alternative. The system checks whether this already exists.

Supplementary Documentation - STALT 0002

Procedure

The alternative BOM field is available for entry.
If you do not know the number of the alternative, do not make an entry here. Once you have filled out the required fields, the system will produce a list for you to select from.

Supplementary Documentation - STALT 0003

Procedure

  1. If you enter an existing alternative, it will be displayed.
Further explosion of the BOM is dependent on a number of factors.
    1. If you do not make any other entries, the system selects the first existing alternative in the subordinate assembly.
    2. If the alternative priority field contains an "X", further explosion is only executed if the given alternative exists for the subordinate BOM: otherwise, the system tells you that another BOM is assigned, but not with the given alternative.
  2. If you do not make an entry
The alternative is determined via lot size. The deciding factor is how alternative selection for the MRP application area was defined in the material master.
    1. The lot size range determines the alternative.
If the lot size range entered does not exist, the first existing alternative is chosen.
If an alternative is entered as well as the lot size, the lot size is ignored and the entered alternative is displayed.
    2. If an alternative is assigned to a BOM in table T..., this is displayed.

Supplementary Documentation - STALT 0005

Use

The system searches for the alternative entered here first.

Dependencies

A number of factors influence alternative determination:

  1. In the Appl ID field, you determine which usages you want to select alternatives for and in which order of preference.
If neither the alternative entered nor any other alternative is valid for one usage, the system goes to the next usage.
  2. If the entered alternative is not valid and at least one other valid alternative exists, the system selects the first of the valid alternatives.
  3. You also have the option of setting the indicator alternative priority in order to search exclusively for the entered alternative.
    1. The system also takes the usage you require into account. If the entered alternative is not valid for the appropriate usage, but at least one other alternative is, you see a message giving you the details.
    2. If there is no valid alternative, the system searches in the next usage for the alternative entered.

Supplementary Documentation - STALT 0006

Procedure

You can do one of the following here

  • enter an alternative.

The system explodes this alternative BOM.

  • not enter an alternative.

The system determines the best alternative for the application ID.

Dependencies

The system can only determine an alternative if alternative determination is defined for the applikation ID.

Supplementary Documentation - STALT 0200

Definition

The alternative BOM of the material, in which the production version is stored. The BOM alternative selected here is used in production with this production version.

Note on maintenance

In order to identify the alternative BOM separately, you must also enter the BOM usage.

After you have saved the alternative BOM and BOM usage of a production version in the recipe, you can make no further changes to them.
