Documentation
Definition
Indicates that the employee is taxed at the highest rate (33%) on his or her extra emolument payments, regardless of whether his or her income exceeds the extra emolument tax bracket defined in Customizing for Payroll New Zealand under Taxation -> Tax Codes -> Define Extra Emolument Rate.
Use
This field can only be used until 01.04.2000. After this date, you must use the Extra emolument rate field.
An employee may ask to be taxed at the higher rate because he or she believes that at the end of the tax year, his or her annual income will have exceeded the extra emolument tax bracket (38,000 NZD) and wishes to avoid having to pay back tax.
If you do not select this option, the total of the employee's gross salary over the previous four weeks is grossed up to an annual salary.
- If the annual salary and all extra emolument payments are less than 38,000 NZD, the tax rate is 21%
- If the annual salary and all extra emolument payments are greater than 38,000 NZD, the tax rate is 33%.
