Documentation
Definition
Date under which the document is stored in Accounting or Controlling.
Use
The SAP system uses the posting date to ascertain the fiscal year and the period for the accounts or cost elements specified in the document which are to be updated.
During document entry, the allowed posting period is used to check whether the posting date is permitted or not.
A posting period is permitted if the following prerequisites are fulfilled:
- The period is not locked (period lock)
- The controlling area has been defined for the period.
- Cost center accounting has been activated in the control indicators.
Note
The posting date may differ from the entry date (date on which it was entered in the system) and from the document date (date on which the original document was created).

If you enter no date here, the last day of the posting period is taken as the posting date.
If you enter a posting date, the posting period is determined on the basis of the posting date.

Note
The system reads the control parameters for the given controlling area from the controlling area itself and from the fiscal year. Note that you do not need to redefine the control parameters every year; they are valid as of the given fiscal year for which the system creates the parameters.
