The Office of Workforce Information at OPM has identified all these duty locations and assigned a nine-character alphanumeric code that is a unique code for that specific duty location. The General Services Administration (GSA) is responsible for the maintenance of the code set and issuance of city codes. The GSA publication contains every occurrence of state/city/county along with the assigned 9-character code and corresponding narrative. The duty station state /country code represents the first two characters of the 9-character duty location code.
