Definition

Definition

The Pension cap excl field indicates whether or not an employee is exempt from the Pensions Scheme Earnings Cap regulations.

Use

Set this indicator for any employee currently contributing to a tax approved pension scheme, where:

  • Employee contributes to a personal pension scheme that was set up before 14 March 1989
  • Employee contributes to an occupational pension scheme that was set up before 14 March 1989
  • Employee joined an occupational pension scheme after 1 June 1989, which was set up before 14 March 1989

When this indicator is set, the system does not check that the employee's current pension contribution complies with the Pensions Scheme Earnings Cap regulations for the current tax year.

When the indicator is not set, the employee's pension contribution is checked for compliance with the current:

  • Maximum annual salary cap
  • Percentage of salary contributed cap

Where the employee pension contribution exceeds either of the current tax year caps, an exception message is raised within payroll for the employee, and can be displayed in the report HR-GB: Exceptions & Messages Report (RPCEXCG0).
