Definition
In accordance with section 2, paragraph 2 ATV, employees at institutes of higher education or research whose work is related to science can apply for exemption from insurance liability if they have a fixed-term work relationship of no more than five years and have not yet had any periods of compulsory insurance in supplementary pensions. Sentence 3 of the paragraph states that, in support of this exemption, the employer must pay contributions to the value of the compulsory insurance (but of no more than 4% of the remuneration liable to SP contributions) into a voluntary insurance fund for the employee.
This voluntary insurance must be modeled using infotype 0669 (Pension Provision Act). The payroll run needs to know the value of the remuneration liable to SP contributions (wage types /28L, /282, and /28W), however, so that it can calculate contributions of no more than 4% of this value using an AVmG contract model (or its modules).
If this status is set, the remuneration liable to SP contributions is determined in the payroll run, but no contribution amounts or contributions are calculated for the compulsory insurance.
If the exempt scientist leaves, the status in infotype 51 cannot be set to "SP-exempt", but must remain in the current status so that arrears payments or overpayments that are liable to SP contributions can be cleared accordingly in the voluntary insurance.
