Definition
This is the factor of a currency unit (To-currency) which another currency (From-currency) is translated into. The factors form the basis and are used for clear interpretation of listed foreign exchange rates.
Currency units are displayed in units of 1, 100 and 1000.
Examples
Currency ratios are displayed by means of the factors
Currency 1 100 1000
DEM
1 USD Japanese Yen Lire
British Pound Portugese Escudo Turkish Lira
Spanish Peseta
100 Swiss Francs
French Francs
Belgian Francs
As shown above, there is a 1:1 exchange ratio between DEM and USD and a 1:100 relationship between DEM and CHF. DEM is, for example exchanged for Italian lire on a 1:1000 basis.
