Definition
The flash point of an inflammable liquid is the lowest temperature (measured in 1000 mbars of pressure) at which the liquid, heated in a closed or open cup and under certain specific conditions, gives off sufficient vapour to flash on the application of a small flame.
Thus the flash point is indicative of the flammability and/or explosiveness of the vapours from inflammable liquids when an external ignition is supplied to them.
