Definition

You can use this indicator to activate cross-transactional buffering of processed BOMs.

This means that BOMs, which are accessed frequently, no longer have to be read from the database each time, but can be drawn from the shared buffer instead.

In doing so, you can, in certain cases, significantly improve performance during BOM explosions.

We recommend activating cross-transactional buffering of BOMs for the following applications:

  • Sales order planning
  • Assembly orders
  • Frequent planning within a day
  • Frequent creation of planned orders for the same BOM
  • Access to BOMs from external systems like APO or via BAPI

Note that you should not switch off this indicator and then switch it on again a short time later, because then the BOM time stamps are no longer current. In this case, the wrong BOMs could be used. However, you can delete the buffered BOMs in the shared buffer using the report RMMDBOM1.
