Definition
It is possible to process realignments by cancellation.
When you do this, the system creates two line items for each segment and for each record type, period, plan version, etc. which you process.
One line item contains the old combination of characteristic values and the cancelled aggregated value fields for the segment. Adding this line item sets the total for all the line items of the old combination to zero.
The second line item contains the new combination of characteristic values and the positive aggregated values of the segments concerned. For reasons of performance, the line item update is only recommended for use with small realignments.
If you carry out your realignments in this manner, you can display the results in the information system using the "delta read method". If you made realignments without the line item update, the affected reports need to be rebuilt from the segment level, which may yield better performance in the case of large-scale realignments than the delta read method.
