Documentation
Definition
Uniquely identifies a controlling area.
The controlling area is the highest organizational unit in Controlling.
Use
Whether controlling area and company code are in a 1:1 relationship or a 1:n relationship, the number of posting periods in both controlling area and company code(s) must be identical. However, special periods may vary.
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0001
Use
The fiscal year variant is automatically determined from the controlling area and is used to determine the first and last calendar day of each period.
The fiscal year variant in turn determines the SAP standard distribution key: "Distribution according to the number of days each period".
If a fixed value date has not been set, the system defaults to the first calendar day of the period for any currency conversions required.
The system also determines the chart of accounts used to validate the cost element master data.
Dependencies
According to the type of planning carried out, the controlling area is dependent on certain fields.
Within primary cost planning there are direct dependencies for the version (only for cost centers), fiscal year, and planning parameter fields. Dependencies also exist to the fields cost center and cost center group or order and order group, as well as cost element and cost element group, since the controlling area is recorded in the master data
For these fields the following data is validated against the indicator "Update all currencies?" (fiscal year-dependent controlling area data):
- the fiscal year-dependent controlling area data
- the fiscal year-dependent version data
- the currency fields of the planning parameters
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0002
Dependencies
The controlling area is related to other entry fields depending on the planning area.
In activity planning there are direct links to the version and fiscal year fields. Dependencies also exist to the fields Cost center and cost center group, as well as activity type and activity type group because the controlling area is in the master data key.
For the fields listed above, the following data is validated:
- The fiscal year-dependent controlling area data
- The fiscal year-dependent version data
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0003
Use
The template controlling area defines the organizational unit for the template cost center. If you do not enter the template controlling area when you specify a template cost center, the SAP System automatically sets this to the controlling area of the cost center being created.
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0004
Use
The fiscal year variant is automatically determined from the controlling area and is used to determine the first and last calendar day of each period.
The fiscal year variant in turn determines the SAP standard distribution key: "Distribution according to the number of days each period".
Dependencies
The controlling area is related to other entry fields depending on the planning area.
In statistical ratio planning there are direct links to the fields version and fiscal year. Dependencies also exist to the fields cost center and cost center group or order and order group, as well as statistical ratio and statistical ratio group because the controlling area is in the master data key.
For the fields listed above the following data is validated:
- The fiscal year-dependent controlling area data
- The fiscal year-dependent version data
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0005
Use
The template controlling area defines the organizational unit of the template activity type. If you do not specify a template controlling area when you enter a template activity type, the system automatically defaults to the controlling area of the activity type being created.
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0006
Use
The reference controlling area defines the organizational unit of the reference cost element. If you do not specify a reference controlling area when you enter a reference cost element, the SAP system automatically defaults to the controlling area of the cost element being created.
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0007
Use
The template controlling area defines the organizational unit of the template object. If you do not enter a template controlling area when you specify a template object, the SAP System automatically defaults to the reference controlling area of the object being created.
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0008
Dependencies
If the assignment control indicator is set to 1, then you are not allowed to freely choose the controlling area code. This is determined by the company code.
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0009
Use
When you activate the Check master data indicator, the system checks the following during data entry:
- Whether a valid master record exists for a single value
- Whether an interval includes at least one valid master record
- Choose the Clear intervals indicator to display the master data stored in an interval.
- Choose the Display text indicator to display the relevant short text for the master data determined.
Dependencies
If cost element groups or revenue and cost element groups are involved, the controlling area must also be entered:
- The named groups are defined on the chart of accounts level. This has the advantage that these groups can be used in all controlling areas working with this chart of accounts.
- On the other hand, cost and revenue elements are always checked on the controlling area level. This means that you must enter the the controlling area.
For time-based master data such as cost centers, the system executes a master data test on a key date, if activated. The current system date is the default testing date, which you can overwrite.
If you change the testing date, note that you must define the relevant period in the fiscal year variant for a non-calendar fiscal year.
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0010
Use
The secondary cost elements (validly assigned to this controlling area on the key date) are transferred to consolidation as items if the secondary cost elements indicator is set.
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0011
Use
If the Secondary cost elements indicator is set, then the secondary cost elements (validly assigned to this controlling area on the key date) are included in the item comparison for the item plan specified.
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 0900
Use
You can use ++++ as a masked entry for all controlling areas.
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 1001
Use
The Controlling area field contains a 4-figure key that represents a controlling area. A controlling area is one of the elements that the system needs to identify cost centers. You need to specify the controlling area in addition to the cost center number.
Procedure
In this field you enter the controlling area for the cost center.
- Enter the appropriate 4-digit key, or
- Select from the list of controlling areas by:
. Choosing F4, or
. Choosing the input help (down arrow at the end of the field).
Supplementary Documentation - KOKRS 1008
Use
The controlling area field contains a 4-figure key that represents a controlling area. The controlling area is one of the information objects that the system requires to identify cost centers.
Procedure
Based on your entries in the company code and business area fields, the R/3 System fills this field automatically. You cannot edit this field. If the value in this field is incorrect, you must change your entries in the above-mentioned fields.
