Cost Center Accounting
In Cost Center Accounting, planned costs are calculated in cost center and activity type planning.
Cost Object Controlling
In Cost Object Controlling, planned costs are calculated in a preliminary cost estimate for:
- The production order
- The process order
You can also create a preliminary cost estimate for a product cost collector.
Use
Cost Center Accounting
In Cost Center Accounting you can use variance calculation to determine the variances between the actual costs and the target costs as calculated on the basis of the planned costs.
Cost Object Controlling
In Cost Object Controlling you can use the costs calculated in the preliminary cost estimate for the following purposes:
- To valuate work in process and scrap using the target costs calculated on the basis of these costs
- To calculate the production variances during variance calculation
This functionality is available in the standard system with target costs version 1.
Procedure
To valuate work in process and scrap at planned costs, first create a valuation variant for work in process and scrap that gives the highest priority to planned costs (see also: Define valuation variant for WIP and scrap (target costs)).
- If you want to use the valuation variant to valuate work in process, you should then assign it to results analysis version 0. (See also: Assign valuation variant for WIP to results analysis version)
- If you want to use the valuation variant to valuate scrap, you should then enter it in target cost version 0 (see also: Maintain target cost versions).
Dependencies
Cost Center Accounting
To valuate the work in process in Cost Center Accounting, perform use the period closing functions of Cost Center Accounting.
Cost Object Controlling
To valuate the work in process, perform WIP calculation in the period-end closing activities of Cost Object Controlling.
To valuate the scrap, perform variance calculation in the period closing process of Cost Object Controlling.
To calculate production variances, choose a target cost version during the period closing process of Cost Object Controlling that uses the planned costs to calculate the target costs.
