Documentation
Definition
Specifies how the single objects assigned to the cost object nodes of the cost object hierarchy are selected during processing.
Use
This allows you to control the following:
- How variances are calculated for the single objects
- How the single objects are settled
Procedure
Turn on this indicator when you want to calculate variances and settle at the level of individual orders.
Examples
Suppose you have assigned one material to each of the lowest cost object nodes of a cost object hierarchy. All orders or product cost collectors generated for these materials are assigned by the system to that cost object hierarchy. You can now use this indicator to control the following:
- Whether variances are calculated and settlement carried out for all orders assigned to the material through the cost object hierarchy
- Or instead whether variances are calculated and settlement carried out for the individual orders created for these materials through the orders themselves
If the indicator Control through variance key is turned on, the production order, process order, or product cost collector can only be assigned to the cost object hierarchy if:
- The material is assigned to the lowest node of the hierarchy
- No variance key is specified in the order
Orders in which a variance key is specified are not included in variance calculation for the cost object hierarchy. Variance calculation and settlement are carried out for each order with the transactions for the period closing process in the Product Cost by Order component or in the Product Cost by Period component.
