The market value of each purchase or sale transaction at the purchase or sale date is stored in the respective position flow. Within the framework of periodic costing, the individual market values are added together and stored here. The total market values of the purchases or sales in the reporting period are included in the trading contribution calculation.

The trading contribution is typically displayed using the following line structure within reporting:

Market value at the end of the period

- Market value at the end of the prior period

+ total market value of the sales in the period

- total market value of the purchases in the period

+ own-account revenues in the period

= trading contribution for the period
