Definition

Opportunity expense is the opportunity contribution from an alternative transaction assigned to a liability-side transaction. The conditions of the alternative transaction are taken from the transaction currency yield curve.

Use

The user can select from the following alternatives via the costing rule:

  • Opportunity contribution from effective capital. The opportunity contribution is calculated from the effective interest rate of an alternative transaction related to the effective capital of the alternative transaction in the transaction currency. The alternative transaction itself is calculated from the cashflow of the customer transaction reduced by the NIM contribution at the time of the flows. The effective interest rate used in interest calculations is based on the AIBD procedure. The opportunity contribution for the period is the sume of the opportunity contributions per calculation segment. A calculation segment is determined by a payment in the cashflow or by the costing key date.
  • Opportunity contribution on a daily basis. The opportunity contribution is calculated as the sum of the daily opportunity contributions in the transaction currency.
  • Opportunity contribution as an average calculation. The opportunity contribution is calculated from the average value of the reporting period in the transaction currency, valued with the average interest rate of an alternative transaction.
