Definition
The average volume is calculated from the daily balances. It represents the average of the daily balances for a reporting period. The average volume is a base value for calculating imputed markup rates (reserve requirement costs, deposit protection costs etc) or for the calculation of average interest rates (customer interest, opportunity interest) and interest contributions.
To start with, the system determines daily balances on the basis of the account turnovers for a transaction. Either debit balances or credit balances are determined, depending on the costing rule. These daily balances are added together for the duration of the reporting period and divided by the number of days in the period. You specify the criteria by which the balance is determined in the costing rule. The following alternatives are available:
- Calculation of daily balances on the basis of the value date
- Calculation of daily balances on the basis of the posting date
- Calculation of daily balances on the basis of the non-utilized credit line.
- Transfer of an average volume already determined in the SAP Financial Accounting. This alternative is relevant for non-interest-bearing positions.
There are also various ways of supplying the base information to the system, and of storing this information:
- Transfer and storage of the individual account turnovers and the balance carried forward per account. This alternative is intended for transactions with an uncertain cash flow. The account turnovers per account are used to calculate the daily balances and the average balance.
- Transfer of daily balances for a period. This alternative is also intended for transactions with an uncertain cash flow. The balances are determined and stored during the transfer process. If the balances change, for instance due to back-dated transactions, the complete set of balances for the affected period(s) has to be transferred again.
- Direct transfer of an already calculated average balance.
- Link to a User Exit.
Note
An average utilized credit line is calculated in a similar way, and processed here as an average value.
