Definition
With this option you can change the policy product (or the internal claim type) for new claims after a certain point in time when a contract is renewed. When the policy product (or internal claim type) is activated, the system adds this point in time, taking the time of the activation.
The system creates a new generation of the product (or internal claim type) together with a new version.
This option ensures that there are no retroactive changes. With activation in the customizing system, a different point in time is taken than is the case in the production system, because activation in the production system takes place at a later stage. It is ensured that all claims in the production system refer to active generation, as no changes are made for renewal times that are in the past. This is also the case if an indefinite amount of time lapses between creation in the customizing system and transport to the production system.
Example
You would use this option, for example, if you want to make a change that is to the disadvantage of the policyholder, and that you want to introduce as soon as possible. This change does not become effective until the next renewal of the contract, after the activation date in the production system. If contracts are never renewed, this change only applies to new contracts.
