General information text variables in report texts
In report texts you can use text variables as well as the normal texts. There are different types of text variables.
- Standard text variables
A standard text variable is a variable provided in the SAP standard system that you can enter directly in a report as the definition of a report text.
When the report is output, the system calculates the values of the variables based on current system data records.
With standard text variables you can include information such as the author of the report and the current library.
- Text variables for characteristics
A characteristic variable represents the data of the characteristic used in the report definition.
With characteristic variables you can include the current contents of characteristics that you want to use in report rows and columns, and in the general selection.
Variables for row and column characteristics are only replaced in the header and footer texts of reports. Varibles for characteristics in the general selection are also replaced on the first and last pages.
- Text variables for selection parameters
Text variable for selection parameters are variables that are contained in the report defintion of the sets you specify. A selection variable can be a value or set variable.
- Special text variables
A special text variable contains the master data information of a characteristic contained in a report. Special text variables are included in the reporting tables of the SAP system.
You could use special text variables, for example, in a controlling report to display the name of the cost center manager and a description of the department. This information is determined by the current cost center.
