Definition
An initial setup state is a state of a work center. It is identified by a key that is a maximum of three characters long.
Use
Initial setup states are used in capacity leveling by the following dispatching functions:
- Setup time adjustment of dispatched operations
- Dispatching of operations in a sequence that minimizes the setup time (setup time optimization)
- Dispatching operations at the best time for setup
These functions take account of how the setup standard value of an operation depends on the setup state at the work center caused by the processing of another operation. To calculate the setup time these functions use the setup standard values in the setup matrix. They represent the transitions between two setup states of the work center. The setup states of the work center are saved in the operations and defined by the setup group keys and the setup group categories.
In case an operation does not have a predecessor you can define the setup state at the work center by entering an initial setup state in the strategy profile. To calculate the setup time of this first operation at the work center the system then uses the setup standard value that represents the transition between the initial setup state and the setup state for processing the operation.
