Definition

The reference document is the document that triggered the controlling document. The reference document number depends on the category of the reference document:

• With reference document category A, the reference document number is the number of the settlement document.
• With reference document category F, the reference document number is the number of the Financial Accounting document.
• With reference document category K, the reference document number is the number of the Controlling document.
• With reference document category R, the reference document number is the number of the accounting document.

Reference document category F is only encountered with documents that were posted before Release 3.0. From Release 3.0 onwards, an accounting document number also is generated for documents from Financial Accounting, and the reference is found through reference document category R.
