Definition
Part Number is the manufacturer's, supplier's or industry standard identity for the subject part, assembly, kit or material item. Part Number when linked with its Manufacturer Code provides a unique identity for the given item.
Business rule
- Each alpha "O" appearing in the part number will be replaced by a numeric zero.
- Blank spaces and/or special characters separating two numeric characters will be replaced by a single dash (-) and closed up as necessary.
- Blank spaces and/or special characters not separating two numeric characters will be eliminated and closed up.
- Part Numbers are not to exceed 15 characters in length. Established part numbers exceeding 15 characters will be changed to conform with the 15 character limit.
- When an item lacks a part number, or when a part number cannot be reduced to fifteen characters, a unique reference number will be assigned to the Part Number field. This number will be used as the Part Number for all Spec 2000 processing. The complete, overlength Part Number will be stated in the corresponding Explanation Code 11 text in Provisioning fixed format applications and TEI "OPN" for Procurement Planning and Provisioning variable format applications.
- The dash (-) is the only special character permitted in the Part Number (reference number) field, however the dash (-) is not allowed as the last position of a part number.
