Protocols are defined to control communication between SAP Systems and content repositories according to document class. This means you can determine how each ArchiveLink function is executed (which communication protocol is used) for each document type.

Activities
- To create a new protocol, choose: Protocol -> Create.
The following options are available for existing protocols: - Change
- Display
- Copy
- Import
- Transport
- Delete
- Generate settings
- For more information, see the SAP Library under SAP Web Application Server -> Basis Services -> ArchiveLink -> Customizing Front End Communication -> Protocol Maintenance -> Generating Protocols
- When the next screen is displayed, enter the following:
- Protocol name
- The name entered here must correspond to the protocol name in the definition of all the content repositories that are valid for this protocol (see the definition content repository).
- Protocol version
- This setting should be made according to the interface version of your storage system.
- Protocol description
To further maintain the protocol settings, select Edit.
The screen "ArchiveLink Protocols: Overview of a Protocol" is displayed.
The newly created protocol is displayed showing creator, date and time. Underneath is a list of all possible functions.
- Select the required function and choose Edit -> Change.
A list is displayed containing all the document classes belonging to the function.
- Choose the required document class and confirm by choosing Edit -> Change.
A dialog box is displayed containing the selected function and the document class.
- Select a communication type and confirm with Continue.
