You can structure the catalogs required for diagnosis entry in your institution hierarchically.
You can define several hierarchies for the same catalog within an institution.
Example
To create a hierarchy for fractures in the ICD-9 diagnosis coding catalog, proceed as follows:
- In the activity Diagnoses - Maintain Codes, activate the Diag. Group checkbox (grouping indicator) in the line containing the diagnosis 800-829 "Fractures".
- Now enter the following data on the initial screen of the activity Maintain Hierarchic Catalog:
- Institution
- Diagnosis coding catalog
- Diagnosis assignment type
- Diagnosis code for you want to create assignments
- Priority (specifies the sequence in which the entries should appear in a list of possible entries)
Since you can only enter diagnosis codes where the grouping indicator is active, you can click the possible entries pushbutton to show a of codes that have a group indicator (denoted by "+" in this list).
- In this example, you would enter the code 800-829, and then assign further diagnosis codes to it on the data screen.
Requirements
- In the diagnosis coding catalog for which you want to create a hierarchic structure, you need to have set the group indicator for the entries you want to include in the structure.
- Before you can create hierarchic catalogs, you must define diagnosis assignment types for the catalogs in question. For more information, see the documentation for the step Define Diagnosis Assignment Types for Hierarchy Creation - you will find this step within this activity).
Standard settings
Recommendation
Start by planning the entire structure that you want to map the catalog to.
Set the group indicator for the entries in the diagnosis coding catalog to which you want to assign further diagnoses or diagnosis groups.
A real hierarchic catalog requires a single predefined point of access (uppermost node in the structure). That is why we recommend that you add an entry to the existing diagnosis coding catalog (FRACAT Fracture Catalog, for example), activate the grouping indicator and structural characteristic for it, and use this for your planned structure. Then assign the diagnosis groups and individual diagnoses to this entry.
Activities
Activate the group indicator - as described in the example above - for the diagnosis codes in the diagnosis coding catalog that you want to use to create a hierarchy or an assignment.
Specify the diagnosis assignment type for your hierarchic catalog.
By specifying the assignment type and diagnosis group you determine the assignment of further diagnosis groups or individual diagnoses to the selected group.
Further notes
If you enter the value HKAT for user parameter DKE, the system will always display the hierarchic diagnosis coding catalog when you click the possible entries pushbutton when you code diagnoses in diagnosis processing.
