In this step, you define the tolerance keys for quantitative characteristics with tolerance ranges.
(If this table is used to define measurement tolerances in the mechanical engineering sector, the terms 'target value' and 'limiting value' are synonymous for the terms 'nominal value and 'limit deviation').
For each tolerance key, you can define:

  • A short text
  • A unit of measurement
  • The number of decimal places for the target value and specification limits
Note: Although you can enter a different number of decimal places for the nominal value and limit deviation from that in the tolerance key itself, the system always uses the number of decimal places specified by the tolerance key in the inspection characteristic.
  • The target value
  • Whether the target value in the key should be copied into the characteristic
  • The limiting values as absolute values or differences to the target value (relative tolerance)
  • Whether the relative tolerance depends on the target value; if this is the case, you must define the relative tolerances for each target value range in a subordinate table.

Prerequisites

You have defined the units of measurement.

Standard settings

The standard system contains complete tolerance tables for holes and shafts according to DIN ISO 286-2.

The data from the DIN standards has been reproduced with the permission of the German Institute of Standards). This data corresponds to the current version of the ISO-DIN standards.
(<Date of current release>, SAP AG)

You may copy the tolerance tables from client 000 into the current client and use them as a part of the SAP system. SAP, however, assumes no liability for the validity of the data.

Recommendation

The standards may have changed since the date of the current release and errors may have occurred as a result of maintaining and importing the data. For this reason, make sure the data is valid before you use it in the production system!

Activities

  1. Determine whether tolerance schemes for quantitative characteristics are used in your company and find out how you can represent them in the SAP application component QM.
If your company is active in the mechanical engineering sector, you can use the tolerance tables for limit deviation in the standard system for holes and shafts.
  2. Store the tolerance specifications in the table.

Further notes

Normally, companies in the relevant branches need only a small selection of the tolerance tables in client 000. To copy this data into the current client, use the function provided in the table maintenance (Utilities -> Compare with client 000) and its associated copy function.
The section Basic Settings, Setting up clients contains instructions on how you can transport all of the basic settings in the standard client 000 to the current client.
