In this step, you maintain the number range intervals for account postings.

The number assigned to an account posting depends on the transaction type. The transaction type specifies whether a posting is manual or automatic.

You can group the transaction types into "manual" and "automatic" by defining a number range interval for each group.

Note

Transaction types cannot be changed. However, you can change number range intervals or assign transaction types to new groups.

Fiscal year change

If you reset the number range to the new year in the fiscal year change, you must maintain separate number range intervals for both the previous year and the current year, in order to allow for postings to prior period. The number range interval for the previous year must be maintained for as long as postings to prior period are expected to occur.

Example:

Interval for 1995: 4900000000 to 4999999999 Status: 4900451234

Interval for 1996: 4900000000 to 4999999999 Status: 4900000000

If there is only one number range interval for both years and you reset the status, the system assigns to postings to prior period numbers that already exist in the previous year. This results in an update termination.

Standard settings

The system is shipped as standard with the transaction types and number range intervals for account postings set as follows:

  • Manual account postings

    Number range interval from 000000000001 to 099999999999

    This group contains the following transaction types:

    • 02 Manual posting
  • Automatic returnable packaging account postings

    Number range interval from 500000000000 to 599999999999

    This group contains the following transaction types:

    • 01 Automatic posting

Recommendation

SAP recommends that you work with the standard settings. If you do this, no further activities are necessary.

Activities

  • Check that you can adopt the preset group configuration and number range intervals.
  • If you want to change the group configuration, proceed as follows:
    1. Select Group -> Maintain.
    2. Select the transaction type that you want to reassign.
    3. Position the cursor on the new group and select: Edit -> Assign element group.
    4. Save your settings.
  • If you want to define new groups, proceed as follows:
    1. Select Group -> Maintain.
    2. Then select Group -> Insert.
    3. Enter a text for the number range group.
    4. Maintain the number interval for this number range group.
    5. Assign the transaction types to the number range groups (see above).
  • If you want to maintain new number range intervals for an existing group, proceed as follows:
    1. Select Group -> Maintain.
    2. Select a group, then the menu path Interval -> Maintain.
    3. Select Edit -> Insert year.
    4. Maintain the number interval for the new fiscal year. If you do not want to define number assignment based on years, enter 9999 in the Year field.

Note regarding transport

Number range objects can be transported as follows:

In the initial screen, select "Interval -> Transport".

Make sure that all intervals for the selected number range object are deleted beforehand in the target system, so that only the exported intervals exist after the import. The number statuses are imported with their current value at time of export.

Dependent tables are not converted or transported.
