The costing variant represents the link between the application and Customizing since all costing is executed and saved with reference to a costing variant.

Control Parameters in the Costing Variant

You group all the control parameters for BOS costing together with this costing variant:

  • The costing type defines the purpose for which costing is used.
  • You can use the valuation variant to define valuation strategies for materials, internal services, external services and subcontracting.
  • You can use the costing type indicator to define whether the entry or automatic derivation of costing types is required, allowed or forbidden during costing.

The following costing variants are delivered for BOS costing:

Recommendation

You should assign a different valuation variant to every costing variant with which you want to save costing.

Costing variants of the same costing type and valuation variant are allowed formally but should be avoided in case data is overwritten.

The reason for this is the key structure for the costing results in the database. This key structure is made on the basis of the costing type and the valuation type and not on the basis of the costing variant.

The 1-1 assignment allows you to change the valuation strategies later without restrictions.

Activities

Decide whether the delivered costing variant meets your requirements. If not, create a new one:

  1. Choose New Entries.
  2. Enter an alphanumeric key and a description for the costing variant.
  3. Assign the following parameters to the costing variant:
    1. Enter a costing type or choose Create.
    2. Enter a valuation variant or choose Create.
  4. On the "Other" tab page, define whether entry of the cost element is required, allowed or forbidden during costing.

    These settings are not taken into account for Easy Cost Planning. You must always enter a cost element for Easy Cost Planning.

  5. Save your costing variant.
