In each employment period calculation, the system must determine the duration of an interval or the total of several periods several times. There are different statutory or standard rules that must be taken into account. In particular, different rules are used for processing for February 29 and for the addition of months, for example:

04.30.1998 + 1 month = 05.30.1998 (?) + 05.31.1998 (?).

In the system, these rules are represented by the definition of a conversion rule. Each calculation process in the employment period calculation contains a conversion rule. Four function modules are always used to define a conversion rule. These function modules perform the following calculations:

  • Calculation of the duration of a period from the start and end date
  • Weighting of a duration
  • Cumulation of several durations
  • Calculation of a date

(Calculation of the end date from the duration of the period and the start date of the period, or calculation of the start date from the duration of the period and the end date)

Examples

  • You only use the unit Days to calculate the employment period:

The duration of the period from January 01, 1999 to February 05, 2000 is 401 days.

  • You use the units Years and Days to calculate the employment period:

The duration of the period from January 01, 1999 to February 05, 2000 is 1 year and 36 days.

  • You use the units Years, Months, and Days to calculate the employment period:

The duration of the period from January 01, 1999 to February 05, 2000 is 1 year, 1 month, and 5 days.

Standard settings

SAP provides conversion rules for the most important rules in the employment period calculation. One conversion rule is already assigned to each calculation process. You only need to carry out this activity if you cannot use a conversion rule used in the standard system.

Activities

  1. Check the conversion rules in the standard system.
  2. If you define a new conversion rule, choose a key in the range g***.
  3. Enter the function module for the conversion rule.

If you develop new function modules for the conversion rule, the interfaces must match those in the function modules from the HRSEN00TEMPLATE_CRULE function group. For more information on copy templates for the individual function modules, see Conversion Rule.

Further notes

You can use the single text for function modules in the Function Builder to check the conversion rule.
