Basic types for master data are supplied in the standard SAP System. If you want to reduce the basic types, you can select the segments and fields that you want to distribute. To do this you activate the segments and fields that you require and generate a new message type.

Reduction is carried out for logical message types associated with an IDoc type.

Mandatory segments and mandatory fields cannot be deactivated.

Keep in mind that when you send reduced message types to target systems of Release 3.0 or 3.1 (tRFC ports of type 2), the message type has to be converted.

You can find this function in the SAP Menu under ALE -> ALE Development -> IDoc -> IDoc Type Development -> IDoc Types (WE30), then Environment -> Conversion.

Activities

  1. Execute the function
  2. To reduce a basic type, create a new logical message type. To do this, enter a new name.
  3. Enter the reference message type (for example, MATMAS).

    You can use the following message types as reference message types for the various master data objects:

  1. Enter a short text for the reduced message type. You can explode this structure.
  2. Activating a segment:
    • Place the cursor on the segments required and select select.
  3. Activating a field:
    • Place the cursor on the active segment and click on 'Select' pushbutton.
    • Place the cursor on the fields required and select Select.
  4. After activating the required fields in all active segments, save the new reduced message type. Make a note of the number of the transport request used.
  5. The reduced message type was created in a system independent of any particular client, but it cannot yet be used. Before the reduced message type can be used, it must be activated for each client in the initial screen of the reduction. This must also be done if new changes are made to a reduced message type.

Further notes

  • After you create and activate the message type, you must transport it into the other systems using the standard means of transport.
  • You can use the transport request in which you entered the reduction. If this transport request also contains corrections that should not be transported, then you can generate a new transport request in the following point Generate transport request for IDOC type, and have this request contain only the data relevant to the reduced message type. To dispatch the reduced message type you have to create the communications parameters.
  • If you want to delete a reduced message type, you must deactivate it in all clients first.

Reduce interim structures for POI IDocs
For the Production Optimization Interface, you must define a unique message type for each logical system and each basic message type for example, LOIBOM. To do so, reduce the original message type, in this case, MYBOM. You will find a list of the IDocs used in the Production Optimization Interface in the R/3 Library under LO-SCPI-POI.
