Use
In this IMG activity, you assign templates for the cover letters to the letter templates.
The system sends the letters via e-mail. The e-mail sent consists of a cover letter and the actual letter in the form of an attached document.
By using cover letters, you can separate the actual content of the letter from the formal cover letter.
Note
If you do not assign a template for the cover letter to a form, the content of the cover letter is identical to that of the actual letter.
Cover letters cannot be changed by the user and are automatically sent with the letter, without the user being explicitly informed.
Requirements
You used the Smart Form templates provided in the standard system to create your own cover letters.
It is possible to use cover letters only if you send the letters in PDF format (see IMG activity Assign Document Formats to Output Channels).
Standard settings
In the standard system, SAP delivers the following copy templates for cover letters:

Activities
Assign a Smart Form template for the cover letter to each of the Smart Form forms that you use as letter templates. Note that letter templates can differ in their technical structure, depending on whether the user can use the HTML editor or changeable letter sections to customize the templates. Assign templates for the cover letter only if they correspond to the relevant technique for customizing letters.
Note
If you do not assign a template for the cover letter to a form, the content of the cover letter is identical to that of the actual letter.
