In this step, you specify that the organizational assignments "business area" and "cost center" are not managed as time-dependent in the asset master record. This means that it is then not possible to define time intervals for these fields for the assignment to different business areas or cost centers at different times. Once you make this specification, then you can only enter one value for these fields, which is valid in all time intervals.
You need to make this specification if the following applies: You want to be able to change the assignment to a business area or cost center using a simple master data transaction, although you create balance sheets at the business area level or profit center level. The system then automatically creates a transfer document when you make this master data change to the business area or cost center.
The cost center is used here since the system uses the cost center to indirectly determine the profit center.
If you choose to manage these fields as time-dependent, then you cannot use this automatic transfer. Instead you have to change the business area or cost center (profit center) by manually transferring the entire asset to a new asset master record.
Standard settings
These fields are time-dependent in the standard system.
Recommendation
You should only change the standard setting when ALL of the following apply:
- You do not need a history of the time-dependent assignments of an asset to a business area or cost center.
- You create business area or profit center balance sheets.
- You expect to make frequent changes to the assignments to business areas or cost centers.
Activities
Set the "time-independent organizational units" indicator for the appropriate company codes.
