This section explains how you can adapt or redefine
search help (formerly matchcodes).

For more informationen about search help functions see the SAP library: Basis -> ABAP Development Workbench -> ABAP Dictionary -> Search help.

Recommendation

To maintain the search help function, you require technical expertise in the ABAP Dictionary. Leave the maintenance of the search help to your system administration.

Standard settings

The search help contained in the standard system is sufficient to fulfill most companies needs.

Activities

  1. Check whether the search help in the standard system is sufficient for your requirements.
  2. If required, supplement the search help functions in the relevant search help objects.

Further notes

Search help functions are created for all clients.

You can find the search help objects in the QM component using the generic key Q*.

Note that a large number of search help functions can impede the performance of the system. Determine which search help functions you want to use for your work area. You can then deactivate any search help functions that you do not need.
To improve performance, you may need to structure indices for the new or modified search help functions.

From Release 4.0, the conventional matchcode search was replaced by a more efficient search help. Maintenance transaction AD20 has been used since this change for search help objects. You now use transaction AD21 to maintain the conventional match code objects.
