In this step, you define confirmation profiles for defects recording.
In the confirmation profile, you specify which fields are to appear on the screens when you record defects and whether the user must enter data in these fields. The confirmation profile essentially mirrors the various recording forms used by the inspectors in the work centers.
With the help of the fields in the confirmation profile, you can include a variety of defect data in the defect record (for example, defect type and defect cause). You can:
- Individually pinpoint the defects and assign them to inspected single units
- Document the activities needed to correct the defects
- Valuate the defects quantitatively
- Identify systematic defects
Example
- If you only copy the defect type and number of defects fields into the confirmation profile, you are defining a summarized form of defects recording.
- If you select the defect type and defect location, you can explicitly identify the individual defects.
- If you select the defect type, defect location and serial number, you can record defects individually for a single unit.
The serial number field contained in the confirmation profile is primarily controlled by the material; that is, it becomes effective only if serial numbers are maintained in the inspection setup for the material. In such a case, the confirmation profile determines whether a serial number entry is mandatory or optional when you record defects. - By recording additional defect criteria (defect cause and defect valuation), you will complete the confirmation profile.
In doing so, you will provide the basis for carrying out Pareto analyses for the defect types and defect causes (in terms of frequency and importance). - You can also mark the defects that are systematic, in order to keep them separate for evaluation purposes.
Recommendation
Define the confirmation profiles after you have defined the report categories. It may be advisable to define a separate confirmation profile for each report category.
Activities
- Determine which report categories are required in your company and what information should be contained in the defect records that will be created on the basis of these report categories.
(The fields in the confirmation profile must be compatible with the catalog profile). - Define the corresponding confirmation profiles.
Further notes
In the report type, you link the confirmation profile to the catalog profile.
