Use
In this configuration section, you create validations to be run in applications that have integrated the appropriate validations functionality. In particular, the Central Personnel Data File (CPDF) edits should be configured here.
Activities
In the configuration of validations, you must define a Validation Group in order to create validation rules.
Prior to defining the rules, you must define the following:
- The fields available for the particular rule.
- The fields are specified in Validation Field Groups.
- Any number of Validation Field Groups can be attached to a Validation Group. If two field groups attached to the same validation group have identically named fields, that field must be of the exact same type.
- The table access methods available for the particular rule.
- The table access methods are specified in Table Access Groups.
- There are specific methods that can be configured to return values from the CPDF check tables.
- You can attach any method to a Table Access Group, with the following restrictions:
- The signature of the method can not have exporting parameters.
- The signature of the method must have exactly one returning parameter.
- The signature of the method may have exceptions.
After configuring these steps, you can define the rules. The rules are date-dependent and may refer to a CPDF edit number if desired.
Finally, you can create validation lists. These validations may be from various validation groups.
Example
Assume that we want to configure the CPDF validation 650.02.2:
- Pay plan is GS or VP
- Pay rate determinant is 0 or 7
The basic pay must match the entry for grade and step or rate in Table 1.
To do this, proceed as follows:
- If one does not yet exist, create a field group that includes the fields Pay plan, Pay rate determinant, Basic pay, Grade, Step and Effective date. If desired, you can create one field group that includes all fields required for all CPDF validations, and use only this one field group.
- If one does not yet exist, create or configure a table access method for CPDF validation Table 1.
Include this method in a Table Access Method group. If desired, you can include all CPDF Access Methods in one Table Access Method group so that all are available for any CPDF validation.
- If an appropriate validation group does not yet exist, create one for this validation.
- Attach the field group to the validation group.
- Attach the table access group to the validation group.
- Create the validation rule.
- Save your entries.
