Use

In this step, you define a complete list of the certificate and license categories that will be used in your workplace to keep track of its employees' professional credentials. The categories defined in this step are a combination of the issuing authorities and certificate and license types that you defined in the prior two steps.

Requirements

Before you may execute this step, you are required to have defined the corresponding issuing authorities and certificate and license types in the prior two steps.

Standard settings

Activities

  1. Execute this step.
  2. On the subsequent screen, for each category to be defined, enter a one- to four-character identifier of your choosing in the Category column.
    1. For each identifier you enter, specify the corresponding authority in the adjacent Authority column.
    2. In the next column, specify the corresponding certificate or license type.
  3. Save your entries, then exit this step.

Example

Suppose you have defined the following issuing authorities.

  • Authority - Description
    NB - NBPTS
    DE - U.S. Dept. of Ed.
    ED - State Dept. of Ed.
    CY - County School Dist.
    SD - Local School Dist.

Suppose you have also defined the following certificate and license types.

  • Type - Description
    AC - Annual
    PR - Professional
    PT - Part-Time
    SB - Substitute
    TP - Temporary

Using these authorities and types, you could define the following categories, among others.

  • Category ... Authority ... Type
    NBPR ... NBPTS ... Professional
    DEPR ... U.S. Dept. of Ed. ... Professional
    CYTP ... County School Dist. ... Temporary

    These three categories would identify, respectively:

    Professional certificates issued by the NBPTS,
    Professional certificates issued by the U.S. Department of Education,
    Temporary certificates issued by the county school district.

Upon defining these categories, you will be prepared to create corresponding employee records within the Certification and Licensing infotype (0795), which record employee certificates and licenses. The categories defined here ultimately appear within subtypes of the Certification and Licensing infotype (0795), which are created to store employee certification and licensing records. In that infotype, these categories are indicated within the Category field of employee records.
