In this step you determine which periods are to be used for average processing.
It is usual to use the periods which lie immediately before the current payroll period for calculating averages. If these periods are not to be used because, for example, an employee was absent throughout, rendering the period non-representative for use in an average rule, a relevancy test can be used to check this. When this is done, each period is assigned the status "relevant" or "irrelevant".
