In this step, you maintain the global commuting types used in infotype Global Commuting Types (0708), which enables the processor to specify the commuting types that have to be taken into account for tax purposes during the global assignment. This is particularly relevant for the United States, where assignees who work more than 183 days are legally obliged to report their worldwide income and have it taxed in the United States if they have exceeded the above-mentioned limit. It is up to the processor to decide whether or not a commuting type must be considered as tax-relevant.
Example
A global employee starts his assignment in the United States on 01/04/2002 until 31/12/02. Within this period, he spends three months abroad for professional (business trips) and private (holidays) reasons. In this case, he does not have to report his worldwide income in the United States.

Standard settings
The SAP system is shipped with a set of standard commuting types, but you can your own ones to meet your customer-specific needs:
- Business Trip
- Vacation
Recommendation
Activities
You can either copy an existing global commuting type or create a new one according to your requirements.
To copy an existing commuting type:
- Select an existing record.
- Click Copy.
- Change the 2-digit key and the description.
To create a new commuting type:
- Click New entries.
- Enter a 2-digit code and a description.
- Save your entries.
