When requesting materials required for a specific organizational unit, you can select materials from a hierarchic input help. The materials that can be requested for the organizational unit (from material catalogs) are listed in this input help.

  1. Hierarchies

You can define as many hierarchies as you like. A hierarchy is identified by a 10-character hierarchy key (Hierarchy field) and a short text (Text field). You assign a default hierarchy to each institution in the IMG activity Maintain Basic Settings. You can override this setting using the SET/GET parameter MHE.

  2. Nodes

You can assign nodes to a hierarchy. Each node has a 10-character key (Node field), a previous node in the hierarchic structure (Previous field) and an appropriate text (Text field) that is displayed in the hierarchic input help.

You first have to define a root node on the highest level of the structure (i.e. without a previous node). Starting at this root node, you can insert further nodes for which the previous node is a valid node.

When you save the nodes, the system checks:

    • If only one root node is defined
    • That each previous node entered is a valid node
    • That each node is related to the root through a previous node-to- following node relationship.
  3. Materials

You can assign materials to each node. Each material is identified by the following specifications:

    • Plant (Plant field)
    • Material number (Material number field)
    • Material group (Material group field)

      You can make generic entries.

The materials from the catalogs defined for the organizational unit are always used. If a material created for a node in the hierarchy is not in the catalogs, it does not appear in the input help.
