Use

In Medical Record Management, you can manage different types of>, you can manage different types of <DS:GLOS.352AE569D9685CD5E10000009B38F974>medical records for the patients of an institution.

You have to declare a medical record type to the system by defining a corresponding document type. By means of the document type, you specify the following:

  • Medical record description
  • Medical record number range
  • Type of number assignment.

Note

The patient medical records entered in Medical Record Management are managed system-internally in the Document Management System by means of "document info records". The Document Management System is a cross-application standard component of the SAP System.

You assign a particular medical record type to an institution or to a specific organizational unit in the IMG activity Set OU-Related Parameters for Medical Record Management.

Activities

To maintain a document type for Medical Record Management you are required to make the following specifications:

  1. Choose Define Document Types in the dialog structure displayed in the screen area on the left.
  2. Maintain the following fields for your document type in the detail screen. Initialize all other fields not listed below.
    • Document Type
      • In the Type field, enter a key for the document type for which you can enter a short text in the Document type desc. field.
    • Field Selection
      • For Medical Record Managment, only characterize the Document desc. field as a required entry field by setting the + indicator. At present, the remaining fields of the field selection table are not supported in Medical Record Management. Assign the initial value (SPACE) to these fields.
    • Type of Number Assignment
      • You can specify the number assignment method in the Number assignmt field. See the F1 Help text for this field.
    • Number Range for Internal/External Number Assignment
      • You specify number ranges for the document type in the Internal number range and External number range fields.
    • Program Exit for Document Number
      • In the Number exit field, specify which program is to control the assignment of the document number according to the defined type of number assignment. Program MCDOKZNR is provided in the standard SAP System.
      This program contains a routine (GET_NUMBER) that lets you assign any part of the number externally, depending on the document type.
      In the standard system, a consecutive number is assigned from the defined number range.

Requirements

If you want to control a special number assignment, you need to have created a special program in the SAP development environment.

Further Notes

If documents or medical records exist for a document type, you cannot delete the document type.
