Use

In this activity, you can fill the Profit Center and Segment fields in existing asset master data. For this, the system selects all active fixed assets with a CO object in their master data. It checks whether data can be derived consistently.

Exception: If investment measures are concerned, the profit center can be derived from the investment measure specified in the asset master record in the origin data. In such cases, the derived profit center of the cost objects stored in the asset master record does not have to match the profit center from the investment measure in the origin data. In the system, you may have to convert the relevant error messages into warning messages.

Alternatively, you can edit the master data using a single change or a mass change. However, we recommend that you carry out this activity because a consistency check is not carried out when you make mass changes.

If you nevertheless want to use mass maintenance, we recommend doing so in combination with this activity (see below).

Requirements

You have made the following settings in Customizing:

  • You have activated segment reporting in Customizing for Asset Accounting with the activity Activate Segment Reporting.

    The prerequisites stipulated there need to be met.

  • You have activated the account assignment objects Profit Center and Segment in Customizing for Asset Accounting in the activity Activate Account Assignment Objects.

Standard settings

You can perform this activity in a test run or an update run:

  • In a test run, the system lists all fixed assets corresponding to your selection criteria as follows:
    • Highlighted in green: Fixed assets to which the system can uniquely assign a profit center and a segment
    • Highlighted in red: Fixed assets to which the system cannot uniquely assign a profit center and a segment

      In a test run, you can navigate to the relevant asset master record by double-clicking it.

  • In an update run, the system assigns a profit center and a segment to fixed assets wherever a unique assignment can be made. In cases where a unique assignment cannot be made, the system issues an error message.

    You can run the program multiple times in update mode.

You have the following options for assigning the correct profit centers and segments to the fixed assets:

  • You can use an update run to automatically assign a profit center and a segment to the selected fixed assets wherever a unique assignment can be made.
  • You can maintain fixed assets individually and then use this Customizing activity to carry out checks.
  • You can maintain fixed assets in mass maintenance and then use this activity to carry out checks.

Activities

  1. On the selection screen, enter the selection criteria for restricting the number of fixed assets. Make a selection that does not have a negative effect on performance.
  2. Execute the program as a test run first.
  3. To reassign profit centers and segments or correct assignments, use individual or mass maintenance for fixed assets. When doing so, ensure that the current or future validity period has been defined.
  4. If necessary, repeat both of the previous steps.
  5. Run the program in an update run so that the automatic assignments are made.
  6. If necessary, repeat the steps above for fixed assets without assignments.
