Manager's Desktop is a function originally developed in Human Resources that assists cost center managers in performing their administrative and planning tasks.

Using Manager's Desktop, you can access manual planning on cost centers directly and tailor this planning to your own requirements by specifying a selection of those planner profiles and planning layouts that you require.

The Manager's Desktop offers you direct access to manual planning, in which you find only those planning layouts with the parameters that you have pre-set.

You select these planning layouts by assigning a function code to each planner profile and planning layout.

If you enter particular default parameters in these planning layouts, you can restrict manual planning to particular parameters like a version, fiscal year, or cost center, or to activity types and cost elements.

Example

You are responsible for planning personnel costs in manufacturing. You therefore need view only those cost centers in manufacturing with those cost elements for personnel costs, namely 420000 to 430000.

Procedure

Select the planner profile SAPALL and the planning layouts 1-101 and 1-104. When defining the planning layout, enter the following values:

  • Cost center group:            MANUFACTURING
  • Cost element:            420000 to 430000
  • Version:                000
  • Fiscal year:            1999

Requirements

  • You have defined planner profiles and planning layouts or you use the settings supplied in the standard system.
  • You implement the Human Resources component to manage the organizational structure.
  • One or more cost centers are assigned to your system user.

Standard settings

SAP supplies the following function codes for the planner profile SAPALL:

  • COCCA101    Primary cost planning
  • COCCA102    Secondary cost planning
  • COCCA201    Activity planning and price planning
  • COCCA301    Statistical key figure planning

Recommendation

  • Define one variable only for the cost center group, not for a range of cost centers.
  • Use one fiscal year only; enter default parameters for other fiscal years.
  • Enter default parameters in as many fields as possible or enter user parameters. The system enters default values for all other fields, in other words version 000, all cost centers, cost elements, period 1 to posting period, fiscal years for planning.

Activities

  1. Check whether the settings supplied by SAP meet your requirements.
  2. If you require further planner profiles and planning layouts, proceed as follows:
    1. Choose New entries.
    2. Enter a name for the function code.
    3. You can define more than one function code at once.
    4. Select a planner profile and assign a planner profile with planning layout to each function code. (You do this for each planner profile that you require for manual planning).
    5. In the relevant User-Defined Planner Profiles, enter the required characteristics for the planning layouts used.
  3. Save your entries.
  4. Under the Customizing settings for Manager's Desktop, carry out the following activities:
    1. Enhance Function Codes
    2. Define Object Type-Specific Function Codes
    3. Define Structure of Function Codes
