In accordance with the ATA SPEC 2000 specification, documents are numbered uniquely.
The system structures the document number for the SPEC 2000 message by grouping the document number and the item number of the associated SAP document. However, because the default field length in the SPEC message is not long enough to take both the document number and the item number, the system deletes some characters at the start of each number.
In this Customizing activity, you determine how many characters should be left out at the beginning of the document number and item number (Deletion Length for Document Number and Deletion Length for Item Number). Ensure that the structured number does not have more than 11 characters.
You also determine how the original document number and item number were structured so that the system can reconstruct the document and item numbers from the SPEC message number.
Example
Document number is 4500000012, item number is 00010.
If the deletion length at the start of the document number is 3 and at the start of the item number 1, the system generates the number 00000120010 for the SPEC 2000 message.
