Use

Before the system determines a value using substitution, certain general preconditions usually have to fulfilled. You can set up these preconditions to suit your requirements.

General preconditions can be represented as follows:

  • Directly in the substitution as a set of rules
  • In the form of a determination rule

For general preconditions, it is best to represent them in the form of a determination rule. Determination rules make it possible to determine values dependent on various preconditions using various substitutions.

Example: Determining a value using

  1. SUBST1 for APR 01
  2. SUBST2 for APR 20

The determination rule is therefore the link between the value ID and the substitution to be used. In a data structure, you specify which data is relevant for determining the substitution. In the standard system, this structure contains only a few fields that serve as an example.

In this IMG activity, you modify the fields of this structure using the APPEND maintenance concept.

Example

You specify that the company code combined with the accounting principle should be a precondition. The precondition is only fulfilled when a certain company code and accounting principle are found. Only at this point does the system determine a value by means of a certain substitution (for example, SUBST1). This precondition enables the system to avoid running through all substitutions.
