Definition
The SAP List Viewer (ALV) unifies and simplifies the use of lists in the SAP System. A standardized user interface and format is provided for all lists. Redundant functions are therefore avoided.
Use
You can use the SAP List Viewer to display both simple lists and lists in a hierarchical sequence (the default setting).
- Simple lists contain any number of equal-ranking lines that have no hierarchical relationship to one another.
- By contrast, lists in a hierarchical sequence comprise any number of lines, arranged in two hierarchical levels. A distinction is made between header lines and item lines, with item lines at a lower level to header lines. For each header line you can have any number of lower-level item lines.
You can have lines representing subtotals and totals in both simple and hierarchical lists.
Dependencies
In the standard system, you can use the ALV Classic to display lists in a hierarchical sequence.
In Total Commitment, you can overwrite data output in the standard system by implementing the Business Add-In (BAdI) Display Total Commitment. You are thus not required to use the SAP List Viewer.
